The animals being fused with human bodies gives me the feeling that these are expression of perpetual and universal human conditions. Almost all his artwork are incredibly intense and I find myself gripped every time I feast my eyes on his work. Needless to say that the anatomical detail and proportions of his artworks are brilliant.

The Repetition rang (First 2 Illustrations) for me expresses anxiety, struggle, fighting, angst, trapped, rebellion, frustration but all intertwined in on itself – feeding upon itself deepening that experience. A self fulfilling prophecy, one emotion triggering another until absolutely embroiled with no definite starts or ends. The Room range (Last 3 Illustrations) individually have their meanings. The Rabbit and the Tiger seem very symbolic/mythological but what I would say it shares with Repetition is the sense of perpetual struggle. A struggle bound to nothing but itself, nourishes the fight. The other two I will leave open for your own interpretation.

Working from his design studio “Sleeping House” in Sweden, Alexander Jansson creates mysteriously beautiful worlds where intricately drawn music vans fly through the air, cute characters play music and lively cities appear from the dark heavy mist. Although the artworks seem gloomy they evoke not feelings of darkness but rather feelings of life, light and music.

Istvan is a very successful commercial illustrator and animator who gained prominence in the mid-1980s in the USA.

Its odd but I find his illustration unusually easy to visualize - flavor and setting. He seems to have a real knack for isolating the subject matter through clever use of colors and layout. Politics, social absurdities, american pop culture, war and sexuality are all things he infuses in his art. Enjoy!

Mateusz has a playful feel to his illustrations but maintains an edge on his work through the subject matter. I like both the bright colors and the softer color sets which where used for the Coco Rosie pieces. I’m particularly fond of Tokyo Rain and Yakuza – almost ended up buying one of these pieces!

I hope you enjoy his illustrations as much as I have!

Based in New York Tomer Hanuka is an illustrator and a cartoonist. He works on a range of projects for magazines, book publishers, ad agencies and film studios. In 2008 he won the British Desgin Museum award as part of the Penguin Classics Deluxe Editions. Currently he teaches at the School of Visual Arts and is working on a graphic novel with his twin brother Asaf.
